About Us

We are a group of Christians living around the Holme Valley seeking to live a way of life which connects us with God and helps us live in the rhythm we think Jesus meant when he said 'I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.' (John 10:10, The Message)
Life can be so hectic, too fast, so much to fit in, no time to reflect on where we're going.
Have we lost touch with something fundamental to what it means to be human?

Even for those who self identify as Christians this is the way we can find ourselves living. Surely there's more to life than we often experience? Is it even possible to take back a little control?

Searching for answers, for an antidote to the over busyness and stress many of us live with, has led us to some ancient wisdom for real life which can speak powerfully into the situation many of us find ourselves in.

This ancient wisdom is found in the life and teaching of Jesus himself, in how his first followers sought to live out a distinctive 'way of life,' and in how some Christians through the ages have approached life and found peace and meaning in the midst of a challenging world.

The Community of Soul Friends has arisen from a session run twice at the 2017 Holme Valley Festival of Faith.

The Community of Soul Friends is a diverse and developing community, finding our unity in a desire to live and help others live a whole and healthy way or rhythm of life with Jesus at the centre.

This Way of Life has 5 'Waymarks' which are explained on the 'Our Way of Life' page on this website. Essentially this is all about making space in our lives for God and for learning to live life to the full.

We have a number of members who are committed to helping others find their own personal way/rhythm of life which fits their lives as they are right now. They can be contacted through the 'Contact Us' page.

We have a very simple rhythm of daily prayer (see 'Daily Prayer' page) which is a good starting point for carving out a little time to pause in the midst of hectic lives. There are links from that page to other forms of prayer you might like to try and the 'Resources page' will be updated regularly with spiritual practices and things to experiment with. The Blog will be updated with thoughts from Community Members from time to time.

Many resources are available in printed form, do get in touch if you'd like any copies.

The Community of Soul Friends is not made up of experts, rather we're fellow travellers, all following Jesus the best we can, all constantly learning and juggling the demands of life.

Our hope and prayer is that this community can and will be a great resource for everyone walking this journey of life and rather than piling additional burdens on people it will be a means by which God takes away some of those burdens and sets us free to truly live.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”                                                                                                         Jesus in Matthew 11: 28-30, The Message
